The Outdoor Discovery program provides a gentle yet exciting experience for budding adventurers.  The majority of each trip takes place on our 500-acre property allowing participants to experience the wilderness without being fully immersed in the back-country. As campers learn new skills and self-reliance in an outdoor setting, leaders help prepare them for a final overnight adventure in the nearby Jefferson National Forest.

Our Outdoor Discovery leaders are fun, experienced, and engaging teachers who help campers face challenges appropriate to their own self-confidence and skill level. Each set of leaders bring their own talents to the group…from story telling to fishing to outdoor crafts, it’s always a new experience with each approaching summer.

  • Campers will begin by learning to organize their belongings for a week of outdoor living and then traveling a short distance to set up their very own base-camp area on our 500 acre property.

  • Each day will be spent learning and having fun with new skills such as: teambuilding on our low ropes adventure course, knot-tying and climbing skills on our climbing wall, tubing down Craigs Creek, paddling skills on the creek, caving, fishing, shelter building, campfire tales, and tons of good old fashion games!

  • The group will build up to an overnight backpacking trip at Roaring Run, an refreshing natural water slide and waterfall hike in Jefferson National Forest. By this time of the trip, participants will have the confidence in their outdoor skills and in working with each other for a short hike and setting camp for night away from base camp.

  • Back at Base Camp, the Outdoor Discovery crew will join the other groups for a Friday full of WA's traditional festivities: an exciting ride down our 900' zip line, competing in the WA-lypics, a filling spaghetti dinner, and a memorable night of sharing stories around the Closing Campfire
